Understanding the Constitution and people who created it is essential to maintaining our Constitutional Republic. On the first day of class, campers are given a copy of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. These documents are referred to frequently throughout the week, and campers are encouraged to read them thoroughly on their own.

  • We teach that we are “one nation under God.” God therefore grants our rights to us; they are not given to us by the government.
  • The influence of the Mayflower compact, other early documents, and early Christian settlers, on the development of our government is discussed.
  • Early American leaders, such as George Washington, John Quincy Adams, and James Madison, are extolled as heroes and founders.
  • Our Constitution establishes a Republic (the rule of law) and not a Democracy (the rule of the majority).
  • American Federalism embodies such principles as, the separation of powers, fundamental written law, enumerated powers, and checks and balances on those powers.
  • A review of the major events in early American history is laid out for the campers.
  • The roles of all three branches of government are taught in detail, with a discussion of, checks and balances, and limitations of each branch.
  • The Federalist Papers are frequently referenced to reveal the careful deliberation exercised in drafting the Constitution.
  • Morality and self-control are essential to our form of government. As John Adams so eloquently put it, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” We practice this in all aspects of the Freedom Generation experience.
  • Basic free market economics is taught. Money, wealth, economy, capital, commodities and fiat money are defined and discussed.
